Do not overlook gas boiler maintenance cover
Do not overlook gas boiler maintenance cover
Nowadays, there is almost nothing that can’t be covered by protection, from the health of dogs to safety of pda’s. Of course, some things are more important to get covered than others and, with the likes of motor insurance, you may be legally required to do so. If someone has a mortgage from a bank, the lender will require the borrower to take out buildings insurance. Insurance offers security against out of the blue events that can severely affect life and property.
Moving a step down the ladder of importance we find central heating insurance, such as the products offered by British Gas. These policies are not as widely used as they should be – for while they are not as necessary as insuring the very structure of a house, the central heating system of a home is most definitely a necessity and repairing it can cost a lot. If we call someone to repair an unexpected heating problem it will take some time for the plumber or central heating engineer to attend which is a big problem as it is difficult to live without hot water or central heating particularly in the winter season. But the most serious implication is the possibility of a faulty gas central heating system, which could be leaking potentially fatal carbon monoxide.
There are a range of plans on the market. The simplest plans are those that include just the minimum requirements with yearly servicing and safety inspections. Maintenance and spare parts coverage are not included in these policies and servicing plans. But if someone wants to take out one of these plans, barring the fact that their central heating boiler is still under warranty, only has to add a little amount on the monthly payment to include coverage for maintenance and spare parts within their policy. And you could find that if you have an especially old boiler that this money will go a long way. When upgrading to a comprehensive plan, homeowners can choose to also insure the pipework and radiators or heating controls along with the central heating system.
Exemptions or limitations which are written into the insurance document should be carefully considered while choosing a policy. The insurance provider may set a ceiling cost for all repairs and spare parts within a year, or fix a restriction on how many house calls they will entertain. As should be done for all other kinds of plans, don’t simply select an insurance policy with the lowest cost without examining the level of coverage and ascertaining it fulfills your needs and that of your gas central heating system.
