Exchanging your boiler with a combination

A combi gas fired boiler is a type of condensing boiler. The benefit of a combi gas fired boiler is that it can heat water when needed and for this reason they are very common.

Ensure that an heating fitter has confirmed that you can install one in your home before you make a purchase. The heating fitter will ensure that your proposed set up complies with the latest building regulations. If you are exchanging your existing heating boiler you will find that you cannot do a direct switch as it is now more challenging to install a modern-day condensing boiler.

Not as hot exhaust gases discharged from the flue are heavier with less heat they can condense more rapidly and result in a visible plume. areas near to the flue outlet are often subject to surface wetting, your neighbour’s house can also be impacted with this process or worse still in the plume can cause problems for people going by.

An existing flue designed for a non-condensing heating boiler is unsuitable for a condensing boiler and the other way around. As a result you may need to change the flue. The condensing gas fired boiler flue must also not be shared with any non-condensing gas appliance.

You need to be able to drain away the liquid condensation which will form within the gas boiler.

An experienced fitter will know how to easily defeat most of these issues. A good installer will know of these cures and can advise you on the best approach. These additional set up costs should be taken into the life-time cost assessment of the gas fired boiler.

The new gas fired boiler positioning does not have to be in exactly the same place as the older gas fired boiler. A change in the location of the new gas fired boiler frequently results from the different set up requirements. The replacement of an open flue or back heating boiler are good illustrations of this. These are often installed in an internal position away from an external wall.

It is acceptable to install a gas gas fired boiler in any room other than the principal living room. Of course gas boilers are often installed in the utility room or kitchen but other popular places are the bedrooms or fitting of a gas boiler in the attic.

A gas fired boiler can be set up in the loft as long as the system is sealed. Access to the loft has to be provided through a lower down loft latter attached to the loft hatch. The attic would need to have sufficient lighting and a boarded floor to enable access to the gas boiler. This will enable an engineer to get access to the boiler for maintenance and servicing.
