Get ready for the winter and update your central heating system

Gas central heating is the best way to keep your household warm during winters. By centrally heating your home, you can make it more comfortable, inviting and relaxing.

Gas central heating systems, which basically comprise of a set of heating radiators, central heating boiler and pipework, can be segregated into two distinct classes, pumped systems and vented systems.

Pumped systems are more common, they have a feed and an expansion tank, another hot water tank is the core of the system, it stores hot water as it heats up and then uses the pipes to transfer heat to the heating radiators. The tank has enough storage space to allow for any water expansion that might result from the heating system.

The second type of heater is composed of a sealed system without a central component that is part of the central heating radiator. It is basically a closed system, and for this reason, there is no need of water tanks. Chief advantages of vented systems are: there is no risk of leaking water tank; major problems like air locks are also not associated with such systems; furthermore, they are specifically useful in cold countries because there is no risk of freezing pipes.

Tell me why I should get gas central heating?.

Well the main benefit of having central heating is that it has the ability to warm up the whole house or office at very fasts speeds, and without affecting the air around you. Before the gas central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the house warm or even coal fires. But the main disadvantages with these, were that they made the air somewhat dry and hard, as well as letting off a slight odour.

The gas central heating systems are free from all these drawbacks but they need regular maintenance to keep them functioning reliably. A lot of houses switch them off during the warm summer months and as soon as a cold snap hits, they then switch them on, this should not be done. You should instead try to gradually introduce them in the autumn time, testing so if things are playing up you can easily call out an engineer.

You should also keep in mind that most houses gas central heating systems can let air or dirt into it, therefore they need yearly draining. You can achieve this most effectively by putting a a bucket under the valve and opening it carefully to release the water, but you need to take extra care to prevent any additional water from entering the system.
