Join the herd and take central heating protection policies

Nowadays, there is almost nothing that can’t be covered by insurance, from the health of dogs to safety of pda’s. Despite the choice it is important to get those insurance policies first which are compulsory like the ones for motor insurance. Anyone seeking a housing loan has to make an insurance policy for the house so that both the lender’s and borrower’s interests are secured. Insurance offers security against unforeseen events that can severely affect life and property.

If we move our attention to risks which are less important then we would meet products such as gas heating system plans, protection products which are offered by the likes of British Gas, npower, Eon and Homeserve. The gas central heating policy is obviously not as important as your home insurance, but its important nonetheless as fixing it can cost you a fortune if you have an unexpected boiler or heating breakdown. Another issue is that finding someone to fix it in an emergency can be a lengthy process and living without warm water or heating is unthinkable, especially in winter. More worryingly is the prospect of a faulty system leaking carbon monoxide, which can be fatal.

There are a range of plans on the market. The simplest plans are those that include just the minimum requirements with yearly servicing and safety inspections. However, the likes of spare parts and repair work are not included. You can upgrade to a more comprehensive plan that includes spare parts and repairs by paying a small amount on a monthly basis, however remember you don’t need to pay anything if your boiler is still in the warranty period. Increasing your heating boiler cover to a more comprehensive plan is very important as your central heating boiler reaches the end of its working life. You can extend your policy to cover other things too, besides the central heating boiler like radiators and other parts of the central heating system or even plumbing, drains and home electrics cover.

One needs to be wary of any exemptions or limits included in the policy document when selecting an insurance policy, each provider is different. For example, you may be limited to a certain number of call outs annually or a cap on the cost of repairs that will be covered. Central heating insurance is like all other types in that you shouldn’t just go for the cheapest deal and always study whether it has sufficient cover.
