Save money on those energy costs
Save money on those energy costs
The news papers are full of reasons why we should reduce gas use. gas costs seem as though they will increase for years to come and trimming your central heating energy consumption can only be a good thing. Whilst you use electricity and energy throughout your household you may find that up to one half of your energy bill relates to your boiler energy use. Here’s a few easy to implement guidance to help you get lower energy bills.
Check where you are using the gas heating system :
You can easily turn off gas heating system radiators for a period, so switch them off in any rooms that are not going to be used for a while such as a spare bedroom. There are no disadvantages in not heating rooms which are not used, but there is an advantage in reducing the gas costs to heat your home. Also close the entrance door to these rooms when not in use.
turn off a fire if you are using the gas boiler :
A gas heating system is much more efficient than using a fire to heat one room. The flue will mean that a lot of the heat created goes outside your home, an electric fire is nowhere near as efficient as the central heating system.
Stop those draughts with the correct insulation
Stop being cold air flowing into your home means that you do not have to pay for energy to continually heat the air. Use draft excluders or door brushes where they can be fitted. There can be gaps between the window and door frames and a wall which are easily filled with a foam based sealant. If you live in an aging home you might be astonished how often these gaps occur. The flame from a wax candle can help you to see invisible drafts as it flickers when they are present.
Put on a sweater and warmer clothing :
When you feel the room is a little chilly look at putting on some additional clothing in preference to turning up the room thermostat. A ten% reduction in your energy use can easily be reached by cutting your room temperature by 1°.
Make better use on your curtains to control temperature :
During the daylight if the sun is shining keep the drapes on the sunny side of the house open to heat the inside of your home. With falling night-time outside temperatures your windowpanes can lose a lot of heat. This heat loss can be contracted if you close the curtains, if you stick to this approach over several months you can save large sums on your heating expenses. Thick drapes are best at stopping heat loss than thin ones.
advice around the home :
You must insulate your gas heating system hot water tank if you have one. The hot water cylinder can hold its heat throughout the day time if insulated making water accessible for you whenever required.
Don’t heat the walls of your home immediately behind the radiators, silver foil can be used to reflect the heat reducing this heat loss.
