Shrink your gas central heating bills
Shrink your gas central heating bills
If we follow the television we all acknowledge that it is critical to trim gas consumption these days. Gas expenses seem to be always on the rise and it is therefore also financially helpful to make better use of the energy you buy. Whilst boiler systems have become more cost-efficient in recent years they will typically consume up to 50% of all your energy costs. Every family should be able to trim its heating system costs by carrying through some of the advice we have outlined below.
Only use gas central heating when and where you need it :
You can easily turn off gas heating system radiators for a period, so switch them off in any rooms that are not going to be used for a while such as a spare sleeping room. You want to keep your house temperature comfortable that this doesn’t require you to heat rooms which are not going to be used for a number of days. Seal the room off by shutting the door and you will have effectively reduced your home and reduced your heating costs.
Use the boiler not the fire :
A fire is far less efficient than the boiler system. With coal or wood fires most of the heat disappears up the flue, the central heating is much more efficient for heating than an electric fire.
Draft proof where you have draughts
energy is wasted in homes due to poor insulation and draughts bringing cold air into the home. Use draft excluders or door brushes where they can be fitted. There can be cracks between the window and entrance door frames and a wall which are easily sealed with a foam based sealant. These type of gaps happen often in aging homes as the foundations settle. The flame from a candle can help you to see invisible draughts as it flutters when they are present.
Put on more shutting rather than switching up the heating :
If you are chilled in the room put on some more clothes before you move to increase the thermostatic temperature. A 10percent decrease in your energy consumption can easily be achieved by reducing your room temperature by 1°.
Make greater use on your curtains to control temperature :
The sun can be used to heat your home in the winter by keeping curtains open on the side of the house where it is shining. Outside temperatures drop at night time and your house can lose a lot of heat through the windows. Closing the drapes provides an insulating layer which helps stop this, this can can save you money in the longer term. Thin curtains are not as effective as thick ones at stopping this heat loss.
guidance around the home :
Insulate the hot water cylinder if your gas heating system has one. A cylinder which is not insulated will rapidly lose its heat and require you to pay to heat the hot water once more.
Don’t heat the walls of your home directly at the rear of the radiators, metal foil can be used to reflect the heat reducing this energy loss.
