Various types of Central Heating Systems are available in the market. Most of them consist of a set of heating radiators, a heating boiler and copper pipework.
Due to the average temperature that is seen across the UK and northern Europe , people barely find the need for air conditioning. That is why in the UK most houses constructed these days are made with Gas Central Heating Systems fully integrated into the home.
With winter coming up round the corner heating should be at the front of your mind. Heating your home provides a relaxing and cosy atmosphere. So you want to be sure that your Gas Central Heating System is dependable. You should feel that your Gas Central Heating System is safe, easy to use and long lasting.
Pumped/vented and sealed are the two main types of Gas Central Heating Systems on the market.
Pumped/vented systems are the ones that many homes have and they have the most components resulting in potentially higher maintenance costs. An expansion tank is present in a pumped heating system. The hot water tank performs two functions; firstly, supply hot water to your house, and secondly, provides heat to the central heating radiators. When the water expands as it is heated the expansion tank allows for this. It is normally placed at the highest place of the house like the attic area, taking up space. It heats the house and doubles as the water supply.
A lot of older homes have pumped/vented Central Heating systems.
The sealed Gas Central Heating system is one that more and more people are opting for these days. No water tanks are needed with the sealed system. There are no tanks or pipework in the loft, the whole system is sealed, its unvented, which has its benefits:.
- As there are no pipes, they cannot freeze up in the attic.
- No maintenance or repair work is required for the pipes and tank which would have been in the attic.
- The risk of leaks is decreased.
- The risk of air locks, corroding and sludge are reduced because there won’t be any air being taken down into the system through the open holes as the system is sealed.
- Can be flushed out under pressure if needed by the mains water supply.
A sealed Gas Central Heating System is a system with the required controls and safety equipment all contained in one. The water for the system is provided directly from the main water pipe of the house. It is plumbed straight into the main water supply.
Separated from the sealed system by a diaphragm is a pressure vessel, which contains compressed gas; this vessel is responsible for managing variations of pressure in the heating system. If the pressure becomes too high in a sealed Gas Central Heating System; a safety valve will allow water to escape from the system and if the pressure drops too low a valve will open to refill the system with water.
As compared to other heating systems, Gas Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. Moreover, they offer all kinds of control, which are usually not found in other heating systems giving you a more enjoyable environment.
